About Joanne

Hello, my name is Joanne.

I am a Canadian Yoga Alliance (CYA) certified 500 E-RYT, YACEP and a CYA certified Aerial Yoga Teacher based in Vancouver, BC. I was trained with Rebekka Walker under the lineage of Kashmir Shaivism in an alignment based teaching method, and received my 200 Hr and 300 Hr designations respectively in 2019 and 2020. I enjoy soaking myself in the vast realm of yoga from metaphysics to biomechanics, and am passionate about sharing them through my teaching. I teach hatha, vinyasa, restorative yoga, aerial yoga, and therapeutic aerial to a wide rage of people through both in-person and virtual session globally.

Yoga came into my life in my early years. I was first introduced to me in the physical education classes in high school, and just until few years ago I realized that I have been practicing yoga for over 10 years. Initially, I was amazed by how yoga can transform and optimize physical performance, and enjoyed the fluidity and freedom in the body after doing yoga. I even tried to share this experience with my family by creating home practices. Little did I know the seed of becoming a yoga instructor was planted since then.

In 2012, an accident caused injury and severe paralysis on my right arm. I was diagnosed with a right brachial plexus injury which leading to the paralysis. It was one of the hardest times physically and mentally for me, going through countless sessions of physiotherapy, acupuncture, and occupational therapy. Yet years later I regard it as a blessing in disguise. During those time, I found the therapeutic aspect of yoga and aerial yoga which helped me recover from the injury and retrieve confidence in herself. It further opened a door for me to pursue a career in yoga.

I had a background in veterinary medicine, and yes, I was a veterinarian. However, due to some personal circumstance I decided to step out my vet career and journey out to the world. Yoga came to me first very personal, but as I dived deeper, I saw more how yoga is beneficial or even magical on my own well-being. That makes me want to share this powerful tool with more people. I truly believe that it is through cultivating a harmonious relationship with oneself one can ripple an overall sense of wellbeing into different aspects in life and to enjoy life fully.

Aside from being a yoga teacher, I am also an avid traveler, photographer and amateur writer. I currently live in the beautiful British Columbia, Canada. I love spending my spare time wondering in trails, relaxing by the ocean, enjoying cooking and eating, and of course, planning my next adventure!
